As the Academic Year Begins: Tkiyet Um Ali Launches "Back to School" Campaign to Restore Dignity and Confidence for Children
With the new school year around the corner, Tkiyet Um Ali (TUA) has officially launched its annual "Back to School" campaign. Designed to empower students from beneficiary families, the initiative aims to ensure children step into their classrooms with dignity, pride, and self-assurance ensuring economic hardship never stands between a child and their right to education.
Every child deserves to stand in the morning assembly with head held high, side by side with their peers. A school bag, a crisp uniform, or a warm raincoat are far more than mere supplies they are essential tools that preserve a child’s dignity, foster a sense of equality and belonging, and alleviate the heavy financial strain on vulnerable families.
Through this campaign, donors can make a direct, tangible impact by sponsoring key supplies:
· School Bag & Complete Stationery Kit: Fully equipped to ensure students are ready to learn from day one.
· School Uniform: Fostering a sense of equality, community, and pride among students.
· Waterproof Raincoat: Providing warmth, protection, and comfort on cold winter walks to school.
· Date Bar Box (24 Preservative-Free Bars): A healthy, nutrient-rich daily snack to power their young minds.
· Food Parcel + School Bag Bundle: A holistic approach combining family food security with educational support stabilizing the household while empowering the child.
Measurable Impact: Real Numbers, Real Change
Last year’s "Back to School" campaign created a profound shift in the lives of thousands of children and their families, reaching 2,973 students across 1,255 households with female-headed households representing 25% of total beneficiaries.
The distributed aid included:
· 2,982 School Bags
· 1,585 Waterproof Raincoats
· 1,349 School Uniforms
Post-campaign evaluations highlighted the immense financial strain families face each academic year:
· 40% of families had to rely on loans to afford school supplies.
· 40% depended on financial assistance from relatives and community networks.
· 20% could only afford a small fraction of required supplies.
· 12% were completely unable to purchase any school items at all.
Beyond Supplies: Transforming Lives Inside and Outside the Classroom
The campaign’s reach extends far beyond distributing items; it drives meaningful change in children's overall well-being. Impact assessment findings reveal that:
· 81% of students enjoy healthier, more consistent nutrition thanks to TUA’s monthly family food parcels.
· 94% returned to school feeling prepared, confident, and eager to learn.
· 93% showed higher classroom engagement and a newfound passion for learning.
These metrics prove that investing in a child’s basic needs directly enhances their self-worth, academic participation, and long-term prospects.
Food Security: The Foundation of Learning
This initiative comes against the backdrop of pressing nutritional challenges affecting children across Jordan. According to the 2023 Jordan Population and Family Health Survey (JPFHS), nearly 32% of children suffer from anemia, while 8% struggle with stunting and wasting critical indicators of undernutrition and micro-nutrient deficiencies.
Providing balanced, healthy meals is not a luxury; it is a fundamental prerequisite for children to focus, learn, thrive, and reach their full potential.
Curbing Food Waste: A Shared Responsibility to Fight Child Hunger
Tkiyet Um Ali firmly believes that combating food waste is crucial to building sustainable food security and extending aid to more vulnerable children.
While 15.7% of children in Jordan live in extreme poverty, domestic food waste is estimated at over 81 kg per person annually. Commercial food waste in restaurants exceeds 12,000 tons per year mostly lost during kitchen prep before reaching the table. Furthermore, hotels throw away more than 4,000 tons of food annually, dominated by nutrient-dense vegetables essential for child development.
Rethinking daily purchasing habits, managing household food wiser, and curbing waste at buffets and events will free up vital resources redirecting food to those who need it most.
Together... Paving the Way for a Brighter Future
Tkiyet Um Ali invites individuals, corporate partners, and public institutions to join the "Back to School" effort. A single school bag, a uniform, a warm coat, or a food pack can spark the success story of a child who simply deserves a fair chance at life.
With your support, thousands of children can walk through their school doors with big smiles, restored dignity, and unwavering hope for a brighter tomorrow.
